River Front Site

  • Riverfront Campsites Along the Potomac

Potomac waterfront campsites are directly on the river. There is a hill in front of the site that goes right down to the water, and these sites have the best access to the nearby boat ramp. Riverfront sites 201-208, 316-320.

Site Details:

  • 2 Adults and 2 dependent children under 18 per site.
  • Only one camping unit per site.
  • Vehicle parking is across from the site.
  • We do not rent out tent sites seasonally.

  • Tent sites are meant only for tents. Popup campers or car camping would require an RV site or River View Trailside site if no water, electricity, or sewer is required. There is a handicap-accessible bathhouse with 3 showers as well as a portable restroom trailer with running water.
  • A 1.5-mile walking and biking trail leads directly to Harpers Ferry from the campground. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and E-Bike rentals are available on-site.
  • There is an active railroad that runs adjacent to the campground and a one-way tunnel nearby. The train runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, although the frequency varies. You may hear honking from the tunnel so if you’re a light sleeper, it will help to bring earplugs for the occasional trains at night.
  • Please be respectful to other campers and site users by observing quiet hours and following campground rules. We reserve the right to refuse service to disruptive guests.
  • All sites have river access but not all sites are riverfront.
  • No Outside Firewood is Permitted at this time. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground.
  • Our Harpers Ferry campground is a mixed-use site! Our canopy tour operates above the campground. The last zipline in the Aerial Adventure Park ends at the campground. The boat launch is used by River Riders to drop off some of their guests.

Boat Ramp Pass – Single Day:

  • Park your vehicle, launch your boat from our boat ramp, and enjoy a swim or fish in a beautiful deep water section of The Potomac River! Day Use Only – Must sign pass agreement.
  • $15 Per Person – (Not available on weekends – Memorial Day to Labor Day)
  • We are no longer offering Annual Boat Ramp passes.

River Front Car Camping

Beautiful riverfront sites for car camping or tiny pop-up RVs at a maximum of 16 feet in length with a vehicle. Tent Sites are also available on a beautiful deep water section of the Potomac River. Riverfront sites 209-211 only.

  • Maximum of 16 feet in length including vehicle.
  • Only one camping/car unit per site.

  • Generations must be quiet, Honda EU inverter-type generators are allowed from 8 am- 8 pm. No loud generators at night.

River View Trailside Sites are beautiful and more secluded than the other sites. Trailside Sites: 405 – 409.ย

  • The sites are along a gravel roadway in direct view of the river. The roadway is between the sites and the river.

Hike In Island Sites

Hike-in Island Sites are on a peninsula that sticks out into the river. These are basic but unique sites that really put you out on the water. Site 110 is shaded with less of a view and the other 2 are out in the river surrounded by water without much shade. They are a unique camping experience. Hike-in Island Tent Sites: 110 – 112.

Cliff Top Sites sit high along a cliff over the river. The sites are wooded, larger and more private than some of the other sites. Cliff Top Sites: 501-509.

There is a trail that leads to stunning views of the Harpers Ferry Gap of the Potomac River!

These may also be used as an RV site, but can also be used for larger groups camping or those wanting water and electricity at their site. Includes electric and water hookup. These sites are across the roadway from the riverfront RV sites, and the river is visible from the site. Access to the river is via the boat ramp nearby. These sites are typically only rented as overflow sites as the space is limited in the sites. Overflow River View Sites: 307 & 130

  • Please be aware that in the event of flooding or potential flooding, Harpers Ferry Campground may cancel reservations with a refund as the only liability.
  • A 1.5-mile walking and biking trail leads directly to Harpers Ferry from the campground to the town of Harpers Ferry. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards, and are available on-site.
  • The Harpers Ferry Campground is only one hour from the Washington, DC, and Baltimore Metro Regions.
  • The campground features a boat ramp for river access.
  • There is an active railroad that runs adjacent to the campground and a one-way tunnel nearby. The train runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and although the frequency varies, you may hear honking from the tunnel. Light sleepers should bring earplugs.
  • There is a 3-night minimum stay for Memorial Weekend, 4th Of July Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend for tent sites.
  • No Outside Unpackaged Firewood. We have firewood for sale!

Check-in is at 3pm at our main office 408 Alstadts Hill Rd, Harpers Ferry, and check-out is at 11am.
